Post 92 Pigskin Fantasy Football Classic: Year II

Welcome to the 2019-2020 Post 92 Fantasy Football League!

The Draft:

When: Sunday, September 1, 2019. 1PM SHARP.  The draft is computerized and we cannot stop it without delaying it one hour, which would really piss off everyone else who shows up on time! If you are not ready or do not have your own draft order, ESPN will automatically make your selections for you.

Positions:

QB…you must draft 2 (1 starter/ 1 bench)

RB…you must draft 3 (maximum on roster 3)

WR…you must draft 4 (maximum on roster 4)

TE…You must draft 2 (maximum on roster 2)

Defense…you must draft 2 (1 starter/ 1 bench)

Kicker..you must draft 2 (1 starter/ 1 bench)

8 Game Starters:

1 x QB

1 x Defense

1 x Kicker

5 x WR or TE or RB

What’s new? This year we introduce the “flex” option which means, instead of forcing you to start 2x RB’s, 3x WR’s, and 1x TE (like last year), you will be able to start ANY COMBINATION of RB, WR, or TE in your games (up to 5). So, if your All Pro Tight End is injured for a week or 2, instead of having to use a weaker backup TE, you can start a RB or WR in his place! So how does this effect how you draft? Great question! Instead of worrying about balancing each position (TE, RB, WR), go for the best player available at those positions!

Side note: We wanted to allow any number of TE, WR, RBs on the roster, as well as an ‘at large spot’ on the bench (meaning one extra of any position), however due to the limitations of ESPN software, particularly in grouping TE/WR on the bench (it doesn’t), there must be a hard cap on those 2 positions. If we allowed 6 WR and 6 TE maximums, then the teams would be able to draft 12 of those players, not leaving them with enough roster spots for the mandatory 2 QBs, 2 Defenses, 2 PK’s. Worse, the auto draft feature for those teams using it would most certainly stock up on ‘only those’ positions causing a nightmare draft scenario. Next year, if the league wants, we can look into software alternatives. However…our new Flex option (fought for and inspired by Jeff) for starters, should help out those who have 2 lemons at Tight End or RB/WR….and provide way more competitive games!

Examples:

You have 2 horrible TE’s! You can instead start 3xWR and 2xRB….or 4xWR and 1xRB..or heck, 3RB’s and 2WRs.

You have 4 great receivers…start them all!!! Then throw in a RB or TE to make 5!

You only have 1 good receiver…so then start him + 3xRBs and 1x TE!

Playoffs? Playoffs? Did you say Playoffs?

If, like me, you were hovering around .500 around week 12, and saw ‘the good teams’ just about locked into those top 3 spots, the season seemed over. Not any more! You can still win it all!

We’ve shortened the season to 14 weeks and, for the top 6 teams, the playoffs begin in week 15!

Here’s how it works:

At the end of week 14, the 2 teams with the top records (#1 and #2) have a bye week (are off) in week 15.

Week 15:

Team #3 will play Team #6, the winner will play #1 in week 16. Loosing team’s season is over.

Team #4 will play Team #5, the winner will play #2 in week 16. Loosing team’s season is over.

Week 16:

The 2 winners will face off for the Championship in week 17.

Of the 2 loosing teams, the team with the better record wins 3rd Place!

Week 17 (The Champion, #1 is crowned!)

The winner is #1.

The looser is #2.

This essentially all means, the 2 teams with the best record at the end of the season (week 14) guarantee themselves a ¾ chance to be a top 3 team and only have to win 2 games to win it all. If one of these top 2 teams looses in week 16, chances are good they will likely win 3rd place, since their record is likely better than the other loosing team which is a lower seed.

The fun part is: those #5 or #6 ‘wild card’ teams that ‘get in’….have a chance to go on a 3 game winning streak and be the Champion (or top 3 finish) as well!

The bottom line: If it is week 11 and you are only 2 games below the #6 record, DON’T GIVE UP!! Better yet, bid on free agents and continue to improve your team!!! You never know, you might just find that one special player that can carry you to the title!
